Course Content

The 9-hour NRA Range Safety Officer Course covers the following main topics:

  • Roles and responsibilities of a Range Safety Officer
  • Range Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Range inspection and range rules
  • Firearm stoppages and malfunctions
  • Range safety briefings
  • Emergency procedures

Key Elements

Prerequisites:

  • Participants must be 21 years of age or older
  • Basic knowledge of firearm safety and proficiency in operating different firearm actions
  • Not fall under any CA DOJ Exclusions

Course Structure:

  • Classroom instruction with practical exercises
  • No live-fire exercises, but includes hands-on firearm handling practice

Assessment:

  • Written examination with a required 90% pass rate
  • Evaluation of practical skills during exercises at the range. You will act as an RSO and also run a line.

Certification:

  • Successful completion leads to NRA Range Safety Officer certification
  • Provides opportunities for employment at shooting ranges nationwide
