Dry fire training has always been one of the most effective ways to improve shooting performance, but only when the training is realistic, measurable, and easy enough to do consistently. I’ve used a range of dry fire tools over the years—everything from basic snap caps to sensor-based systems—and the Mantis TitanX stands out because it brings multiple training modalities into one clearly defined, purpose-built system.
After spending time using the TitanX with both the Mantis Pistol/Rifle App and Laser Academy, here are my thoughts on what it does well, where it shines, and a few practical observations that are worth knowing before you buy.
DISCLAIMER: I was given a TitanX to demo and to try by Mantis, and I’m an affiliate. Please keep that in mind when reading this review. That being said, I have purchased and used several of their products as a consumer prior to this, and will provide my unbiased opinion on the product.

What the TitanX Is — and Why That Matters
The TitanX is a dedicated laser training pistol with an integrated MantisX sensor. That distinction is important.
This is not a modified firearm, nor is it a device you attach to a live gun. From a safety and training standpoint, that matters a lot. The TitanX is immediately identifiable as a training tool, which significantly reduces the risk of confusion with a live firearm. For home training, instruction, or working with newer shooters, that’s a meaningful advantage.
Because it cannot chamber or fire live ammunition, I found myself more willing to train frequently, quickly, and without the mental friction that often comes with traditional dry fire routines.
What Comes With the Mantis TitanX
One thing I appreciated right away is that the TitanX is a complete training system out of the box. There’s no need to buy additional sensors or piece together accessories just to get started.
Here’s what’s included:
The TitanX Training Pistol
The TitanX itself comes set up with iron sights, so you can start training immediately. The slide is also optic-ready, allowing you to mount your own red dot if you want to match your carry or duty setup. This makes it easy to maintain visual consistency between dry fire and live fire without being locked into one configuration.

Integrated MantisX (No Separate Sensor Needed)
The MantisX sensor is built directly into the TitanX, which means:
- No external rail-mounted device
- No extra setup or calibration
- No need to purchase a separate MantisX unit
As soon as you power it on, it pairs directly with the Mantis Pistol/Rifle App, giving you immediate access to performance analytics, drills, and coaching feedback.
Two Removable Training Magazines
The TitanX includes two removable magazines, both designed specifically for training. These magazines:
- Cannot accept live ammunition
- Are weighted, giving them a realistic feel
- Allow for reload and transition drills
The weight of the magazines stood out to me—they feel substantial and closer to loaded mags than most training alternatives, which helps maintain realism during reload practice.
Protective Carrying Case
Everything comes neatly packed in a dedicated carrying case, which makes it easy to store or transport without mixing it up with live gear. From a safety and organization standpoint, this is a nice touch—especially if you’re training in shared spaces or teaching others. Below is a short unboxing video:
Out-of-the-Box Training Experience
From a setup standpoint, the TitanX is about as straightforward as it gets. Charge it, pair it with the app, and start training. Because the MantisX is already integrated, there’s no friction between opening the case and running drills.
That simplicity matters. The easier it is to start a session, the more likely you are to train consistently—and that’s where real improvement happens.
Training With Both MantisX and Laser Academy
One of the biggest strengths of the TitanX is that it allows you to use two different training systems with a single tool.
MantisX App: Movement & Performance Feedback
With the Mantis Pistol/Rifle App, the TitanX provides real-time feedback on:
- Trigger control
- Stability and movement
- Shot timing
- Draw mechanics
- Multi-shot performance
The holster draw analysis is particularly useful. The TitanX supports multi-shot strings, which allows you to work draw-to-first-shot, follow-ups, and transitions without constantly resetting the system. That alone makes it more practical than many dry fire options I’ve used.
The drills are straightforward, effective, and easy to progress through. Setup is simple, pairing is quick, and the feedback is clear without being overwhelming.
Laser Academy: Shot Placement & Visual Feedback
Pairing the TitanX with the Laser Academy App adds another layer: visible shot placement.
Seeing where your shots land—especially during structured drills—adds context to the movement data. I found this especially helpful when working accuracy-focused drills or when slowing things down to clean up fundamentals.
It’s worth noting that full access to Laser Academy requires a separate purchase, though several modes are available for free. Even with the free modes, it’s a useful complement to MantisX, and together they create a more complete training picture than either system alone.
Ease of Use & Training Flow
From a usability standpoint, the TitanX is refreshingly simple.
- No attachments
- No external sensors to mount
- No manual trigger resets
- USB-C charging
The resetting trigger allows for realistic strings of fire, which makes practice feel less artificial. That translates to better engagement and more productive sessions, especially when working speed, cadence, or draw mechanics.
Because it’s quick to pick up and start training, it fits well into short sessions—which is realistically how most people train at home.
Magazines, Reloads, and Weight
The TitanX includes two removable magazines, both of which are noticeably heavy. In a good way.
The weight gives them a feel closer to a loaded magazine, which makes reload drills more realistic than lightweight plastic alternatives. Reload detection worked reliably, and practicing with two magazines made transitions and reload sequences feel natural.
Another nice touch: the TitanX also accepts real Glock magazines, which may be useful for shooters who want even more consistency with their existing gear.
Holster Fit: One Practical Observation
The TitanX comes in different form factors at the time of this article (Glock 17, Glock 19, Glock 45). The version I was provided was the Glock 19 form factor, and overall the dimensions are close. That said, in my experience, holster retention was slightly tighter than with my actual Glock 19. This may have been due to a generation difference in my holster/actual firearm and the version of the TitanX I was provided.
This isn’t a deal-breaker, but it’s worth mentioning. The tighter fit may require a brief adjustment period or minor holster tuning, especially if you’re practicing draw mechanics. Once I was aware of it, it wasn’t an issue, but it’s something to account for if you’re running high-rep draw drills.
Who This Is Especially Good For
Based on my use, the TitanX is particularly well-suited for:
- Shooters who want measurable dry fire training
- People training at home who prioritize safety and clarity
- New or cautious shooters who benefit from a non-firearm training tool
- Instructors looking for a safe, repeatable teaching aid
- Anyone trying to reduce ammo costs without sacrificing progress
The fact that it’s clearly a training device—not a live firearm—cannot be overstated, especially in shared spaces or instructional environments.
Final Thoughts
The Mantis TitanX does what it claims to do and it does it in a way that encourages consistent use. It’s easy to set up, safe to train with, and effective when paired with both MantisX and Laser Academy.
No training tool replaces live fire entirely, but the TitanX fills the gap between range sessions in a way that’s practical, data-driven, and realistic enough to matter.
For shooters who take dry fire seriously, or want to start, the TitanX is a solid training investment and it’s worth a look if you are interested in something that can be dedicated for use as a dry fire training tool that is not your personal carry firearm.
